UNICEF and Kerala State Branch of Indian Public Health Association Sponsored Seminar "Timely achievement of targets related to maternal and child health programmes"

Annual conference of Indian Public health Association, Kerala State Branch and UNICEF sponsored one day seminar on “Timely Achievement of Targets Related to MCH in MDGs in Kerala and Public Health” was conducted on 22nd October 2011 at Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Chalakka, North Kuthiyathodu, P.O, Ernakulam District .

Hon. Minister for public works, Kerala Sri. V.K Ibrhaim Kunju inaugurated the function, Sri. Muraleedhara Panicker, Secretary GCT was the chief guest, Principal Commodore Dr. M.J John welcomed the gathering, Dr. Sathish Kumar , Chief UNICEF office for Tamil Nadu and Kerala gave keynote address, Mr. K.D Venugopal , Treasurer GCT addressed the gathering.

Dr. Raju Antony , President of IPHA and Chairman Organizing Committee gave the message, Prof. Dr. Madhavi Ramachandran , Vice Principal , released the bulletin. Air Commodore P.J Vincent V.S.M , Medical Superintendent and Dr. K.A Sreevilasan, Chairman, Cultural wing, IMA, Kerala State, felicitated the gathering . Prof. Dr. Thomas Mathew, Secretary IPHA Kerala proposed vote of thanks.

Short report of the programme - Doctors’ Day celebration and Observation of International Day against Drug -Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 1st July 2011, at Lecture Hall No.III of College office building, SNIMS.

This year we celebrated Doctors’ Day along with Observation of International Day against Drug -Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 1st July 2011 at Lecture Hall No. III of the college building at 3.00pm. Before the inaugural programme a seminar was organized for the students from neighbouring colleges/ schools. About 80 students and a few teachers from different college/ high schools from the neighbouring area participated. Dr. N. Madhu Director, Chaithanya Hospital, North. Paravoor and Dr. Anoop Vincent Psychiatrist form our college were the speakers. Dr. Sasidharan. K, Dy. Medical Supt. of our college proposed vote of thanks after the seminar. Prof. Dr. Raju Antony gave a briefing at the beginning of the seminar.

Sri. K. Babu, Hon. Minister of Excise, Govt. of Kerala was the chief guest. The function started with prayer by Miss. Archu. M. J & Miss. Anjali Vijayan, IInd year MBBS students of our college. Principal, Commodore Dr. M. J John welcomed the gathering. Hon. Minister inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp and gave a speech. He distributed wheel chairs sponsored by Sri. N. Muraleedhara Panicker, Secretary GCT to three old age homes namely-

  • Paravoor Municipality, North. Paravoor.
  • Sree Narayana Sevika Samajam, Sree Narayana Giri Thottumugham (P.O), Aluva.
  • Holy Family Charitable Services society, Santhitheeram, Perumpadanna, North. Paravoor.

He also distributed certificates for those who participated in the seminar. This was followed by presentation of memento to Hon. Minister by Principal Commodore Dr. M. J John.

Sri. K. K Karnan, Vice President, GCT distributed uniforms for children to Mrs. Jameela, Head- mistress, A. I. S. U. P, School, Manjaly. The uniforms were sponsored by Sr. K. K Karnan, Vice President, GCT.

Mr. P. Ajith Kumar, Manager Training introduced the speakers. Doctors’ day message was given by Prof. Dr. D. M. Vasudevan, Principal Medical Trust Institute of Medical Sciences. Message on International Day against Drug -Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was given by Mr. Ravi. S. Menon, Asst. Drugs Controller Ernakulam region. Mr. S. Jayakumar, Manger Institutions, GCT, presented mementoes to Prof. Dr. D. M. Vasudevan, Mr. Ravi. S. Menon and Dr. N. Madhu. Medical Supt. Dr. P. J. Vincent felicitated the gathering. Prof. Dr. Raju Antony proposed vote of thanks.

College Union Inauguration and Fresher's day celebration

The college Union inauguration and Fresher's day celebration was conducted on 8/2/2011 and was inaugurated by Nationally known cine director Sri. Kamal. He spoke on the issues of social relevances and the various magnitudes of his cinemas.

A Question- Answer interactive session with Sri Kamal was also held in the same evening wherein he expressed his observations and reservations on current cinemas.

Principal, Medical Superintendent and College Union members spoke on the occasion, followed by various cultural programmes for the Ist and 2nd MBBS Students.

Awards

  • Mahatma Gandhi University conducted a State Level University Union Youth Festival from 27th January 2011 to 1st February 2011. Students of 1st and 2nd MBBS participated in various cultural events.
  • Ms. Anusree S, II MBBS students who participated in ' Bhartanatyam 'event secured A grade status.
